Another great day in the RSA...

This time of year in the Western Cape is usually warm and sunny. Days are spent in the outdoors and at night you open all the windows in the hope that a cool breeze might find its way through the windows.

This December is marked with strong south-easter winds blowing all the time, we've had lots of rain and it's cloudy. Tonight, all the windows are closed and it sounds like winter outside the walls of the house. I can hardly believe that today was so sunny and warm!

I spent the day gardening - picking dead leaves from potted trees and hoping that the compost I added to the soil will give them some energy and perhaps some hope to grow a little more. My mother and I collected pebbles from the beach and filled all the pots with them – it looks great! White pebbles with tinges of rose and blue in them. As the rays of the sun touch them they sparkle ever so slightly. We spent hours fixing up her [my mom’s] holiday house for the coming holiday!

As we drove off – to our own home in another town – I could feel the stiffness in my back….the dryness of my hands and the glorious feeling of accomplishment. As I sit here I feel removed from the thoughts I had yesterday regarding Polokwane and the big question – Who will be the next party leader??? It’s been the foremost point of conversation the past couple of weeks…..and I must admit I still don’t have an opinion on who would be the next best one! The ANC is divided and there are too many unanswered questions regarding some of its members and some of its workings – to allow someone like me to come to any conclusion – whether good or bad!

I will now go put my very stiff body on my bed….I will listen to the wind as it blows through the trees….I will fall asleep with thanks in my heart for this day, this country, this continent!
